Car Hacks to make Life Easier

How much time do you spend in your car each week?  If the answer is too many than you’re like me.  Moving kids from school to sports and activities, as well as normal household duties and my own work; my car is my office.   Below are some tricks I use in my car to keep it clean, organized and functioning.

I have a mini carabiner on my keys and it is so helpful to just hook them on a buckle of my purse or to the outside strap of a bag.  It is time consuming if you’re always digging to the bottom of your bag to unlock the car.  I also love my pink key chain that holds all of my mini business cards thanks to moo.com.

Next time you’re out grab a few plastic straws and toss them in the glove box.  These come in handy as not to spill on your commute.  Never-mind being able to keep visual contact with the road instead of tipping one back to get the last sip.  If you want to go green feel free to join me in the straw free movement by using dishwasher safe reuse-able straws.  My Etsy store will soon carry adorable cases with some funky straws.

This one evolved over time.  I took a key ring and just leave my mostly highly used cards in the center console.  I don’t keep more than $20 on these gift cards, in case they were to be stollen, but it’s enough for munchkins for my munchkins and a coffee.  It also makes it easy to get my gas rewards without remembering my phone all the time.

Keeping it clean is hard with muddy feet in the backseat.  I found this awesome plastic protector to do just the trick.  Now they, won’t last forever but hopefully long enough for their legs to grow and not have their muddy little feet stick strait out.

I also use clothes pins to attach a small plastic bag for the little wrappers and trash that would otherwise get tossed around and end up in the impossible spots for retrieval.

Love this one.  Bought a car hook off Amazon for under $10. It was advertised to go on the back seats and hold your grocery bags up right. I use it in the front seat to keep my purse off the seat and eliminate the, ding, ding, ding put your seat belt on warning; because lets be honest I carry a BAB.   Don’t know what a BAB is ask any mom of small kids it’s a Big Ass Bag!

I will say it is super handy too when I have to reach for something in my BAB it’s much easier than reaching down.  When I do my craft deliveries I know the pretty packaging and product won’t get crushed by all of the other stuff I have.

This one came later as well.  I use to just toss a small fleece blanket in my trunk. Later I realized that too often I’d have to shake it out, and twice a year I’d be so grossed out I would have to wash it just to get the beach sand or winter dirt out.  I re-purposes a clear zipper plastic bag that originally contained a bed skirt. Plastic storage bags for blankets are now the way to go.  There is always a clean warm cozy blanks for our kids and it is quick to find in the trunk or under the seat.

Now those up north think it’s a bit overkill and those in the south think it’s a must have.  Honestly they are pretty cool and nice to have.  It totally does keep the car cooler.  It also saves the interior especially the dash from cracking , splitting and getting gross.  Think about how many hours your car sits in the beating heat. It is also nice with leather seats not to burn your buns or scald yourself with the hot buckle.

I also have small kids toys stashed in each of their doors with things that would keep them busy if we’ll be on the road a bit. It has saved me from WWIII in the back seat.
